Q4- How well did I meet the brief?

Q4- How well did we meet the brief?

Throughout the project we used a range of shots and different methods to make the production the best it can be.

As Leah (the investigator in the film) walks into the room, we use the 180 degree rule, as we start on the right side of her when she’s opening the door; we flip the camera to the right side inside the room. This is not breaking the 180 degree rule as we are positioning the camera on the correct side of the character. This is an area where we succeeded in our project.

Another method we used within filming our project was the shot/reverse shot when the two characters were speaking. This looked very effective as the audience can see the characters facial expressions, emphasizing the affects of the current conversation on the two individuals.

Q6- Evaluate your contribution to the group's work

Throughout the production, I believe my group worked together to help each other in each section. No one was caught slacking in their task of the project and all worked sufficiently.

My role in the project

In the task set I was given the role of being a character in the production, being filmed as the distressed mother on the search for her son. I believe I played this role well but our storyline could of been improved. I also helped a lot with the editing side of the project,  creating titles, adding sound, improving the effects. This was also a great practise for producing my next tasks in the future.

How flexible was I?

I believe I helped all throughout my project. My group was always flexible with our lunches as we would stay and work on our project if it needed that extra help. I put a lot of effort into our production and feel it is shown within our film.

What skills have I learnt from this project?

I have become more confident within myself as I had to act in front of the camera which I found was a struggle before producing this film. I have also learnt a new set of skills within editing the film when finished and also the filming side of the production. This will help a dramatic amount in future projects as I now know how to work in front and behind the camera.

Do I think we all worked well within our group?

I believe our group worked as best as we could. We helped each other out in different tasks, learning from each others mistakes. I don't think we could of done any more to contribute to our project and feel no one slacked within our group which made it easier to work and get the production finished to a high standard.

Q1- What I have learnt during the making of my preliminary task

What I learnt from this task

All throughout the making of production, I learnt a range of new technology skills when working with the camera as well as in front of it.
Some skills I have gained from working towards this task are:
  • How to use the DSLR camera.
  • Finding out all the different features of the camera.
  • Learning how to edit the film.
  • Using Adobe Premiere Pro CC to create my film.
  • Using different effects on my film.
  • Adding in music.
When creating the film, I found using the DSLR quite difficult first time around, this is when my skills started to improve when I practised more. I learnt how to attach and detach the camera from the tripod which I found very useful as some shots the camera needed to be still and focused and others, the camera could be used more for the movement of the shots. After we finished the filming side of then project, we then started to edit the production on Adobe Premiere Pro CC, adding in effects, contrast, music and titles. This practise has helped me learn all different skills when working with this editing programme. I feel I have learnt a great deal of the filming and editing side of making an production which will be a great relief when making projects in the future.

How I managed my time

I believe within my group, we managed our time effectively resulting in us not rushing when the task was due in on the 16th of October. We was organised while booking out an area to produce our film and really got on with the task as we only had an hour to film. This then resulted in us having the time to spend all our effort on editing the film making it the best of all our ability.

Group Work

As this was a group project, we was all expected to pull our weight within working on our own tasks set. As well as having an individual duty within the production, we all worked as a team making the whole experience easier for everyone in the group, meaning if another team member had a problem with their task set e.g. working with the camera or how to use effects on a certain part of the film yet someone else in the group did, we felt it would be necessary to help our group member. This is working together to make our ability the best it can be.

Storyboarding

Before producing the film, we had to create a storyboard on how the film was going to be set out. Explaining the roles each group member had to enrol. After we drew the storyboard showing different pictures of what the scenes will look like including effects, lighting and acting by the two characters, we posted this onto our blog explaining the different scenes and we will video these to get the best affect. This was a great idea to do before producing our film as we knew exactly how we will film different bits of the scenes resulting in the amount of time we needed for filming reducing.

Issues around continuity

As we shot the whole of the production within the same day, we didn't have the problem of costumes/hairstyles/make-up being changed throughout the film, which we found very useful as we didn't have any problems of the film not flowing correctly within the look of the production. Although, we did find that we didn't shoot one of the characters walking away from the situation so we had to improvise and flip two of the scenes so the film could end in a correct manner. We also found a couple of the scenes jumped when flowing into a different scene, we didn't find out what the best way of correcting this was, meaning there's room for improvement when learning new tricks of Premiere Pro.
